The Osiris is a faction in The Cycle.

Osiris had a small presence on Fortuna III to conduct research on the alien monuments, as well as the local flora and fauna, but only came ""in force"" after The Cycle exposed the planet's unique hostile environment.

Founded specifically to participate in dangerous research activities without impacting its parent company and headed by Emanuel Sullivan, a scientific visionary, the young corporation hopes to break new ground thanks to the Fortuna III's abundance of Veltecite and its globe-encompassing energy field.

Osiris items tend to prefer speed and evasion, giving their users control over the battlefield.

Faction Reputation/Levels[edit]

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Joshua Strauss, personal assistant to Dr. Emanuel Sullivan. On his behalf I would like to thank you for your work completed on the surface for Osiris. Finding talented surface contractors to work with is rare and Dr. Sullivan has been very pleased with your performance.

As you know, Osiris primary mission in this system is to investigate the unique properties of the teratomorphic energy field that surrounds Fortuna III, more commonly known as ""The Cycle"" for its cyclic nature. The finds you and other surface contractors provide us are essential in our research.

As a token of our appreciation, we are happy to provide increasing access to our vast library of weapon and device blueprints, both from Osiris and from our parent company. Blue Star Ltd.

Yours sincerely, Joshua Strauss

Your new standing grants you a blueprint for the following items:
Triage Sphere (Ability) – Deploys a sphere inside which the owner (and their allies) will gradually be healed. Asp Flechette Gun (Weapon) – Developed for safe use on ships and stations, this compact SMG is still just as lethal when used on the surface.

You'll be talking directly to me now, I can't be bothered reading second hand reports or have one of my inept self-proclaimed ""personal assistants"" getting in the way of my work.

You already know why we're here, the Cycle. There are eight other H-Class 5 planets out there, never mind hundreds of planets and moons of all kind with Forgotten monuments littering their surface, but the Cycle is entirely unique to Fortuna III.

There's a reason for that. If it's Forgotten tech, I'll find out. And if it's not, I'll still find out.

Continue working for us and we'll make sure you're paid well, Prospector.

Your new standing grants you a blueprint for the following items:
Adrenaline Shot (Ability) - A stim booster that increases the user's movement speed, though makes them more susceptible to damage. Phasic Lancer (Weapon) – Osiris may be young corporation, but they've made a strong impact on Fortuna III's weaponry scene thanks to quality kit like this punchy burst rifle.

""Squatters"", they're common to other H.C-5 planets, but nowhere near as big. Even here on Fortuna III, before the Cycle began they were just pests the size of a common cat. Nobody knew what they'd turned into until Gerald Badum and the first prospectors started going back to the surface two decades ago.

I'm sure by now you've noticed the difference between regular squatters and the ones I set up Hunt contracts for. That imbecile running Korolev probably uses the samples for soup at his decadent parties, but those samples are priceless. They show the next stage in the evolution of these creatures, or rather potential next steps. More importantly, they help us understand how their evolution works, how they're affected by the Cycle.

Continue hunting these creatures for us, Prospector. Rest assured we're not using them for petty trophies.

Your new standing grants you a blueprint for the following items:
Directional Warp (Ability) – Have you ever wanted to be in two places at once? Well, that's impossible, but you can get pretty close thanks to this device's teleportation tech. Precision Strike (Ability) - Calls down a kinetic strike from the skies; deals massive damage, but hard to get a good hit.",Squatters are the main monster species on the planet - name refers both to their pose and to them occupying the planet,

I'm glad to see you're still working for us. Most prospectors seem to get enough of the life and cash out after a few runs. Or stop living entirely.

Have you noticed any effects from the Cycle? I'm sure that by now you've been exposed to the surge or a Cycle Spike before escaping the surface. Or maybe even gotten yourself shot up and encased in stasis foam to stay the night, exposing yourself to the brunt of the Cycle. I hear some prospectors are never retrieved with their emergency transponder simply going dead, but those are probably myths to scare off new competing prospectors.

Anyway, inform me ASAP if you start to experience any hallucinations, dizziness, or loss of time. Studying the effects of the Cycle on a living human would be an unmissable opportunity, and Osiris offers the best in medical care.

Your new standing grants you a blueprint for the following items:
Manticore (Weapon) – Like the smaller Asp, this flechette assault rifle won't discriminate its environment.

Korolev. Just, Korolev. I don't know how they do it, but they manage to ruin everything time and time again. First they started trying to use letium as a fuel source instead of inverting its effect on the environment, then they straight up started boring through the surface to reach pockets of it.

Letium is half the reason Fortuna III is as it is now. It's not just a greenhouse gas, it has an exciting effect on the planet's flora. We've been sending down refiners to process the gas and make it inert to slow down the process, but Korolev and ICA just collect it to use as common fuel. But on top of that Korolev is opening massive holes and releasing tons of the gas into the atmosphere!

I need you to redouble your efforts taking over Korolev laser drill platforms; we can't allow the changes on the surface to continue occurring faster than we can study them.

Gorgon (Weapon) – So long as you can track your target, this little monster won't let you down.

If it's not Korolev getting in my way, it's those ICA idiots. I know they're behind the rising loss rate of our salvage drones on the surface, and I've seen their sloppy code trying to break through our system defenses from the retrieved drones they ""hacked"".

Those research drones cannot fall into the wrong hands, Prospector. Each one is able to analyze samples in-situ better than any one of my labs here ever could off the pittance we retrieve from the surface. If they didn't come back dead or with their storage scrambled from the Cycle I'd just leave them there indefinitely.

You need to continue retrieving and guarding over my research drones, Prospector. At least until someone in robotics figures out a way to make them return from the planet without assistance.

Protective Shell (Ability) - Envelops the user in an indestructible force field, though only for a few seconds.

I've noticed there's a healthy trade in Brightcaps here on Prospect. That's worrying. Apart from people consuming what is essentially a glowing, mutated mushroom, they're scarce and can only be cultivated on the surface.

Brightcaps are a mutation of agaricus bisporus only observed on Fortuna III, that makes them exceptionally rare, and exceptionally important to my research. So far we only know that they have a negative interaction with the creatures of Fortuna III; ""Ticks"" over-consume them, burrowing out of their underground hives just to gorge on the mushrooms. Squatters avoid them, except for the Howler subtype that completely loses its protective behavior towards other squatters and instead becomes fixated with large fields of Brightcaps, and the ticks those attract.

What I'm trying to get through to you here is that these mushrooms are not food. We need those samples, Prospector, they can't be wasted larding up the station's populace or going down the gullet of some Artery system brat.

Your new standing grants you a blueprint for the following items:
Surveillance Ward (Ability) – If the standard hand-held scanner isn't giving you the overview you need, you can always just have a satellite shoot one of these area scanners down. Basilisk (Weapon) – A compact sniper rifle with a high fire rate, this gift from Osiris should serve you well.

Have you seen an increase in Zeal samples on the surface? The amount of usable data we've received from suit scanners studying Zeal radiation has balloon over the last few weeks, and I'm hoping it's because of you and other prospectors and not a glitch.

You've probably seen a ""Red Zeal"" crystals by now. Zeal is essentially just pure veltecite, the core of a vein but exposed to some phenomena, most likely a simple lighting strike, during the apex of the storm surge as the Cycle hits. Unfortunately the crystal decays rapidly, and the radiation is too dangerous to be transported off planet.

Red Zeal, however, is far more stable and that trying Badum character will allow it on his ships. You need to retrieve as many samples as you can for me, Prospector. We can learn so much from a stable Zeal sample, maybe even recreate it using pure Veltecite here on Prospect station.

Your new standing grants you a blueprint for the following items:
Concealment Cloak (Ability) - A cloaking device that will make the user almost invisible when standing still, but has a high shimmer effect when moving.
Concealment Cloak Icon

For two centuries, since we first encountered the Forgotten's monuments, we've known that we're not alone in the universe. Or at least, that someone travelled the stars before us. It's been decades since humanity stopped searching, content in our expansion and safe in the assumptions the monuments were little more than monoliths from a once proud civilization, inert and immobile, the only surviving proof they ever existed.

But they're not inert. Those giant markers have the slightest effect on Red Zeal crystals; it's almost imperceptible, but completely observable with the right equipment.

This is what I came here for, Prospector. We're close to something magnificent, I know it.

Zeus Beam (Weapon) – If you enjoyed the Gorgon, you'll want to check out the Zeus. It needs be charged up to fire, but the payoff is worth it.

Osiris, a subsidiary of Blue Star LTD, is one of the few corporations that decided to come to Fortuna III, only after its unique hostile environment was discovered. A young corporation, Osiris’ parent company had a long history of buying incipient and struggling R&D and tech firms to develop and license patents to third parties.

With the discovery of the Cycle and sensing an opportunity where other corporations saw inconvenience, Blue Planet Financial founded Osiris as a financially and legally independent company to research what could be the next major technological breakthrough in human history. Or it could turn to be yet another in a series of failed investments on the edge of space that almost invariably result in massive loss of life, one of the two.

To the public, the company’s primary goal is to examine and explore Fortuna III and the Cycle, to research alien artifacts, and the recovery of exotic resources. Whether its private goals align with this, remains to be seen.

If they suspect another company holds new knowledge on a data uplink or structure, then it is only just that Osiris know about it as well. Their operations in research on the station and artifact recovery on the planet are costly, forcing them to deal with Prospectors and involve themselves in more mundane matters to ensure a steady cash flow.

Concept art – Osiris leadership

Headed by Emanuel Sullivan, a scientific visionary, the young corporation hopes to break new ground thanks to the planet’s abundance of Veltecite and its globe-encompassing energy field.

Osiris only recently started hiring Prospectors to handle the bulk of their matters on the surface, after several unfortunate, and costly, “incidents” borne from inexperience; these days, scientists and researchers are confined to the station.

As Osiris has a vast bank of patents at its disposal, its items are the cutting edge. At first glance, it’s difficult to tell what an Osiris weapon actually does, or if it’s even a weapon at all; smooth surfaces with hard, uniform edges, moving parts, components that pop or swing out when a weapon is activated or an auxiliary function used.

Since neither Osiris nor its parent company is a proper manufacturer, many items may seem overdesigned, with too high a focus on aesthetics rather than practicality in construction or use. In reality, these objects are highly effective for the one purpose they were created for. Granted they might be quite terrible at everything else.

The Basilisk is the result of an offshoot project during early development of the Phasic Lancer. It trades a higher ammo count for a much stronger energy discharge. A phase tech marksmen rifle; the Basilisk’s impacts aren’t as powerful as other weapons in its class, but it boasts a high rate of fire.

While still in the prototyping phase, Osiris is happy to offer this rifle to Prospectors of a high enough standing.

A powerful beam rifle that requires charging up before firing. Not the easiest to handle, but lethal in the right hands. Dubbed the Zeus’ little sister, the Gorgon may not be as devastating, but its glare can leave any target petrified in place. And crispy.

Called “Zeus” for turning any mortal into the God of Lightning, this heavy weapon will fulminate any creature that meets the divine ire of its wielder.

While beam based weapons have found heavy use on warships for centuries, only in recent years has the technology allowed for a portable form factor. The Zeus uses a linked-light beam to contain and focus a jet of plasma across long distances, with a fairly predictable effect on whatever it contacts.

Intended for use in pressurized environments, Osiris designed the Manticore for a more militaristic use than the compact ASP. Lightweight, accurate, and lethal, it’s seen use by marines both performing as and defending against boarding parties.

This flechette assault rifle is heavy hitting and effective at close to medium range but loses against other rifles in power and accuracy further out.
