The Veltecite Minerals contract is a PvE focused point defence contract. Your assignment is to collect crystals that spawn all over the map in varying sizes and defend them during a short drilling period. Veltecite Minerals is one of the best-known contracts in The Cycle since it is always available in Solo and Duo mode and prominently featured in the Tutorial.

Description[edit]

The contract has three steps: Interact with a mineral vein to call down a drill, defend the drill from spawning enemies and collect the drilled minerals once the drill is finished.

The minerals come in different sizes between meager (100) and Epic (1000). The larger the crystal, the longer it takes to drill it and the more enemy waves spawn. The smaller crystals start at 100 points and can grow over time up to 600 points when they get hit by lightning, the Epic mineral veins are spawned at match start and don't regenerate.

During the drilling process monsters will spawn in waves and try to destroy the drill. The drill can take some damage, but an unsupervised drill will eventually be destroyed. When this happens, the drilling process will have to be restarted from the beginning.

When the drill is finished it plays a short sound and emits a purple beacon light that can be seen from afar. This can alert other Prospectors to your location and possibly encourage them to try and steal the drilled minerals.

Mineral ready for collection

The contract sums up the amount of crystals you collect and awards points whenever certain thresholds are met.

The mineral contract is liked because it is a certain way to get points and money since monster killing is part of the process. A team that manges to collect an epic crystal early in a match usually gets enough money from it to have a solid advantage over the other teams.

Contract Elements[edit]

Meager Veltecite Minerals[edit]

Mineral meager hud.png

100 points - 10 seconds drill time - one enemy wave ("Easy")

This smallest crystal spawns all over the map. One is guaranteed to appear near each prospector spawn point. It is by far the fastest to mine and has the best time-to-point ratio. The single enemy wave consists of Grublings, Spitters and Ravagers.

Average Veltecite Minerals[edit]

Mineral medium hud.png

200 points - 30 seconds drill time - two enemy waves ("Medium")

Still small enough that a single prospector can take it without problems at the beginning of a round. Spawns Grubblings, Spitters and Ravagers.

Rich Veltecite Minerals[edit]

Mineral hard hud.png

400 points - 50 seconds drill time - five enemy waves ("Hard")

Rated as "Hard" in it's description, this Mineral vein poses an actual challenge if you try to take it early in the game. With stronger weapons or in a team it pays off nicely.

Massive Veltecite Minerals[edit]

Mineral massive ingame.png

600 points - 65 seconds drill time - five enemy waves ("Very Hard")

Rated "Very Hard", this Vein is a late-game chance to get some more levels on your Minerals contract. It doesn't spawn naturally but grows out of smaller mineral veins over time. During drilling, all biological enemies except ticks can spawn.

Epic Mineral Vein[edit]

Mineral epic ingame.png

1000 points - 180 seconds drill time - seven enemy waves ("Extreme")

The Epic Mineral Vein behaves a bit differntly than its smaller counterparts. Epic minerals are only spawned in once at the start of a round and are visible for everybody on their map. They don't grow further and don't grow out of smaller minerals. Around an Epic Mineral Vein, smaller mineral outcroppings also spawn. They can't be activated in the first two minutes. All biological enemies can spawn around an active epic mineral, including Brutes and Wardens.

Epic Minerals are often a contested objectives. The huge amount of points is almost guaranteed to bring your Minerals contract a level further and the large amount of monster waves returns a lot of credits. For rival prospectors, a started epic mineral drill is possible to intercept since it takes a lot of time and the defending team is occupied with the monster waves and possibly weakend.

Lore[edit]

  • The monsters near a drill are aggravated by the noise and vibrations the drill makes, that's why they attack it.
  • With the Lost Prospectors manual an altered form of Veltecite can be mined. It is strongly geometric, the single pieces attract each other like a magnet and it hums. The mining process involves a Korolev standard mineral drill modified with Osiris beam tech.
  • Korolev believes that Red Zeal samples can help understand the origin of the Veltecite veins.
  • The Zeal crystals are Veltecite vein cores that got exposed to something.
  • Surge Crystals seem to be unstable versions of the Zeal crystal and therefore also related to Veltecite.
  • Veltecite ore is used by Korolev as a high density energy source for their foundries.
